MArch1 Students at Robotic Stonecarving workshop

Marble Codes: Robotic Sculpture from Garfagnana / Digital Stone Project and International Workshop.

Master of Architecture students, Emily Estes and James Regnier as well as recent BArch Michael Stradley were invited to participate in a month long international workshop in the RPI / Digital Stone Project collaboration invited by the Garfagnana Innovazione, home of one of the worlds largest seven axis milling robots for stone and marble. Located at the site of one of Italy’s most important modern quarries used by Michelangelo and other important renaissance figures, the students spent a month on site working with the technicians of the Garfagnana Innovazione on custom CNC techniques and finishing processes. The workshop culminated in the conference and exhibition ‘Marble Codes’ during the first week of July 2015 at the Villa Strozzi Garden in Florence Italy.

For more information on the interdisciplinary nature of the workshop please visit the Digital Stone Project website.
